SCV Rehearsing Simple Gifts Closer 2009
They were SO LOUD in person, left my ears ringing for a few seconds afterwards
I need the damn kick out!!!!!! Loving this show it’s my favorite after the bluecoats!!!
Love the change to a proper z-pull too
They finally put people in those cubes like I've been suggesting now forever. They have the potential to beat BD, but I don't think it's going to happen. Either way, I love this show. In fact, I really like the top seven shows this year!
I'm sure they'll have one final GE surprise for finals to boost them!
They just went to closed rehearsals too 👀
Sorry, a medal of some sort is reserved for all things BD. Don't be surprised if it's silver! The world just wouldn't be the same without BD medaling. or is that meddling?
First
Beautiful!
Thanks Brad, great recording and sound from the corps. ❤
Glorious!
Is their a transcript yet for the first part they played?
Haven’t seen anyone take that challenge yet
@@colelmorei would love to see one
@@mell0_ben I know some people who can do it. Not sure if any will. I just have way too much going on to spend that kind of time on it.
Heartwarming and uplifting ❤
It was a blast to be out there performing Elsa's with my fellow alumni and the corps. I NEVER get tired of playing that tune.
Omgoodness… I want to go back
LFG
no1 katron fan right here 🙋♂️
The way the dude on the right gets pushed back when the first chord hits is exactly what the wall of sound DCI makes you feel
The bass drums go crazy right before the final chord at 38 seconds in
I bought the casette tape of this performance from the BD souvie truck at DCI East in Allentown in 1994. My first DCI show....
that closer drill wasn’t written for any human to pull off but the stars pulled it off anyway
Simply garbage.
and what corp did you march?
dawg what
Like yo trash ahh can do better
That’s just crazy talk
My band director is the brass caption head
Please rid dci of giant set pieces and vocals forever.
womp womp
no
holy tone quality batman
Crazy how much the microphone freaks out at the hit 🤣
WOW
Damn those mellos have some tone...
Pulled an scv closer
I don't mind! I think it worked out!!
Spicy ass chords
One of the baddest shows ever. And I started marching 98 there. What does that tell ya
nice job!
Thank you JD Shaw and team ❤
Babylon closer influence?
nah.. its just mellos playing...it has been done b4
It’s a solid mello sustain that has been done by spirit in the past
The mellos 😍
As a SoA mello alum, I agree!
🔥
I used to run the 5690 bw and the docutech from 1999 to 2004!
07:47 woooooee
Just realized the ending of the ditty was slightly different here. 1:04
love the old suits, but the uni change was very needed and really helped this show visually.
Ok no.... It's the playback that's faster than normal.
A great preview of DCI championship #7. I remember this day well.
Do you have Blue Devils 1995 from the Pavillion?

Brad, I was up in the stands at this very show watching with D’Angelo Burgin, I still get chills today.
2 of my fav tenor quad lines 90s, Sean Vega & Bill Bachman's lines. Though the two corps they rep, combined with SCV & Velvet Knights (1992-3ish) & many other corps turned the 90s into a decade of transformation for "multi-tom" players. Perhaps the most transformative of the last 5 decades... but I'm in over my head with that pondering.
Somehow I played 1 year with RCCMT, not on a horn, but in the Pit. I was the synth player to the right of the drummer in this fun "Santana" show - silver vest and all. I remember RCCMT Director Gary Locke at the time, whose wife, Shiela Locke, Assistant RCCMT Director, and who was my junior high school band/choir director knew I played piano because I was, for 2 years in the late 70s, the choir accompanist and only guy in the jhs choir (got to know some really nice girls that way!). So Sheila, years later, I guess recommended/urged me to put down the horn and instead play the synth part in this "Santana" show. I trusted Sheila way back in jhs and naturally I trusted her again. I played some pretty iconic synth riffs from Santana music. I am thankful for that! I remember somehow I was appointed the Pit Section Leader. Perhaps because I was the old man in the group and/or had experience with SCV ('84 & '85) and teaching and running rehearsals with VK Middle Horns ('93). I remember playing with a very talented ringer guitar player who was our "Santana". One show, we were setting up the pit just before the show started - lots of equipment, naturally. 30 seconds before step off, the guitar player, who stood to my right, showed me his hand - it was all BLOODY. I mean dripping blood. He had somehow cut part of his hand during the setup. We found a towel, I think, or perhaps an old t-shirt in my synth cabinet and wrapped it up. The dude played the whole show with bloody hand and bloody guitar strings and bloody guitar. He was OK after the show but all about "The show must go on". I remember one show, the electric power to our pit, got cut off. I know the tech guy on the sideline was frantically trying to solve the problem. We air-played the whole show. It sucked. Such is life. We looked good though. I remember trying out for the singing part of that "Santana" show. It revealed, yet again, that I am NOT a good solo singer. I am best being part of the larger choir. I remember, Sal, the chosen singer for that "Santana" show was, IMHO, the perfect choice. Many years later, I was catching a flight at Ontario Airport in SoCal. The voice at the gate announcing the flight departure sounded oddly familiar. Ends up that it was Sal!!! We had a few laughs. Good dude - Sal. I truly respected Sal for his many years of leadership at RCCMB. Now if ever at Ontario Airport, I look for Sal. Good times during my 1 season with RCCMT. Thank you Gary Locke, Shiela Locke and 1996 RCCMT.
I was in the band this season, but this is the first time I have seen the show. I was in the pit and always had my back to the band.
Wow! Talk about a flashback. My second year in RCC
Super ! Love that purple kit, too.
the drum major high on the hornline @12:38 is awesome. What a pleasure it must have been to have that hornline in your face
James Gulke. So I glad I was able to have him as a drummajor before he aged out. What a legend
James Gulke is to me the BD DM 🐐
